Welcome to The Country Bumpkin

We are a catering company based in Hertfordshire and can be found spit roasting pig, lamb and venison throughout the county and beyond. You will also find us at various pubs & restaurants running our Wild Food Nights. A fixed menu (changed monthly) with a locally produced bread basket, 2 starters, 1 main a taster dish and a dessert served over 2 hours with a single sitting. We love the idea of a relaxed pace of dining, so you can enjoy the company as well as the food, we aren’t about turning tables and counting covers. It's great to hear from the kitchen the conversation swap from food to social as each course comes and goes, it’s how they eat in the rest of Europe so why not here!

We've also done location catering for films, shoot dinners, hunt dinners, birthdays, office parties and weddings from 10 - 300. So if you have an event looming why not contact us and we'll see what we can do for you!

We also run Foraging Days throughout the year, where you will spend the day catching crayfish or ferreting and gathering wild greens, fruits and nuts; stopping for a wild lunch then preparing and cooking up the days haul. Finally you sit back and enjoy at the end of the day your hard earned reward, ideal for releasing the hunter gatherer within!

A little bit about us - Stuart Blackman, owner of The Country Bumpkin was born and bred in the small Hertfordshire village of Woolmer Green and as generations before him grew up close to the land, gathering, hunting and cooking from the wild. So locality and seasonality is high on our agenda. After taking voluntary redundancy to follow his true passion, the business slowly grew by word of mouth and in 2008 we proudly became the Local Food Hero Champion for the East Anglia region in the Gary Rhodes / UKTV Food - Local Food Hero Competition, TV fame at last! For the future - April 2011 is the planned opening for our little Tea Room / Farm Shop if everything goes to plan with the building work! It will also see us providing more cooking courses with the aid of friends from various disciplines in catering.

2020 will be a big year for us as this will be when we take over the Ritz or maybe the world, not sure yet but watch this space!
